Save vs Splurge: Brow Gel

Who doesn't like finding a bargain? Spending a fraction of the money on a superior product? I'm in. I've decided to start a little 'Save vs. Splurge' series here on the blog to discover what products are worth the splurge, and which aren't. I may even save you a dollar or two along the way.

First up we're talking brow setting gel/ clear mascara. I've never really been one to set my eyebrows until recently. Something finally clicked and now it's part of my daily routine, tamed brows all day long. My budget friendly offering is Australis' Clear Mascara, retailing at $10.95, and the more spendy option; Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel (shown here is a sample) at a slightly steeper $39.

I'm going to cut straight to the chase and say that Anastasia's offering is a better product. It sets brows hard all day long, they literally won't budge. But is it worth the splurge? $39 for a clear gel seems a little steep for me. The Australis offering doesn't set anywhere near as hard, it allows for a little more movement but I think I might actually prefer it. Whilst Anastasia's is the one to go for if you've got unruly brows and want to keep them set in place all day long, the Australis option just seems so much more natural and I'm never left with completely unruly brows at the end of a long day.

I'll be sticking to my much more purse friendly Australis Clear Mascara in the future. Have you tried any of these?

  1. I don't set my brows, heck I don't even DO my brows (SHAMEFUL) but I guess for an every day look, brow gel would be really handy just to brush through! Have you tried the Essence one? I remember using that long time ago.

  2. I use the Essence clear brow gel and I really like it, I mean it's so cheap and I actually don't have very unruly brows so it does the job for me! The Anastasia one seems so expensive for what it is!

  3. I really want to try a decent brow gel, for days when I cannot be bothered filling in my brows.

  4. Great idea for a series! I also prefer having a bit of movement to my brows, I find it a bit painful if they are too hard, bit like having your hair in a pony tail or day! Great post!

  5. $40 practicallu for an eyebrow gel is insane!!! I would also definitely go for the purse friendly option especially when It is just a clear gel, not a pencil or anything that can make a difference to your look. I however do like to treat myself to Benefit's "Gimme Brow" once in a while!

  6. I've never found a brow gel that's been worth the price tag! $39 for Anastasia's offering is a bit steep for a clear gel x

  7. I’m in love
with your blog! It was so interesting to
read your posts and also I’d like to say that you have beautiful photos!

  8. I agree with you that Anastasia is brilliant but the price is insane for a clear gel. I use revlon's clear gel and really like it. It obviously is not as intense as Anastasia but it it right up there.

  9. Fab post, I didn’t actually know that Anastasia did a brow gel. Their gel sounds so amazing but so expensive :( I tend to use the Benefit Gimme Brow as it tints them slightly also :)

  10. For clear gel I always use a clear mascara, I never see the difference. And then I can spend twice as much on a colour product!

  11. Brow gel is something I definitely recommend saving on as there are so many great, cheap options. I've never tried the Australis offering, but I'm currently using the Maybelline Brow Drama and I am in love with it.

  12. I love the Anastasia one, especially for my thicker/longer than most peoples brows but will admit to using my Essence clear gel way more. Maybe because I don't want to use the more expensive one and ruin it/use it/touch it hahaha but also sometimes I don't like the feeling of rock hard brows and the essence one you can just whack on and it's fine so

  13. I don't use a brow gel ... but maybe I'll try it now (:
