A Base Haul

We all know I’m more than just a little tempted by the base array in any beauty store so it’s no surprise I’m coming at you with a whole heap of them today. I’m not sure whether it’s because I’m so darn self-conscious about my hormonal teenage skin or just the knowledge that a good base is 100% necessary for a good look but either way, I can’t seem to give up on my quest to find the ever elusive ‘holy grail’ base. Base woes aside and onto my actual purchases and this time around it a rather purse friendly edit. Oh how I do love a good deal at Priceline.

We’re well and truly into the cooler months down here in Australia and my Snow White skin is definitely emerging (ok, maybe that was a slight exaggeration but it is pretty damn pale!). Cue the daily ‘none of my foundations match my skin’ dilemma quickly followed by a trip to Priceline to rectify the situation. Instead of opting for a perfect colour match I reached for something uber pale with the intention of mixing it with any one of my way-too-dark foundations to achieve something a little more winter skin friendly. I’m a fan of Rimmel’s original Match Perfection foundation so when I saw the newly packaged version I was tempted. The shade 018 Fair is extremely pale, just what I was after. Plus the dewy finish it provides is great for keeping things a little more natural on my drier winter skin.

Redness has been a really big problem for me lately; I just can’t seem to combat it. When I spotted Bourjois had 30% off I was drawn in to their new-ish CC Cream. With colour correcting and skin brightening properties I thought this would work well as a light primer-type product under my usual higher coverage foundation. There were no samples available (annoyingly!) so I just opted for the lightest shade available (light beige) although I’m fairly sure that’s way too dark for me, especially at this time of year. I’m yet to try it on though so hopefully it will blend out and adapt to my skin tone and you won’t be able to notice that it’s a few shades too dark.

From the Bourjois stand I also picked up their Happy Light Concealer. The shade I picked up, 01, is yellow based so I think it will be great to counteract redness and brighten the under eye area. I’m hoping it will be a good all rounder concealer that I can pop in my handbag for touchups (fingers crossed).

Branching into more purse pinching purchases I had a moment of weakness  and walked out with Antipodes Mineral Foundation, David Jones' 15% off was just too tempting. I’ve never tried many mineral foundations and I’ve developed a love for Antipodes so what better place to start? A foundation that claims to be good for your skin… I’ll report back soon.

  1. I've been intrigued by the Antipodes foundation so I can't wait to hear your thoughts about it. It's always interesting when skincare brands do makeup! Can't wait to hear your thoughts about the Bourjois goodies too. They seem to have amazing base products!
