Dairy Free Smoothie


If you saw my Healthy Habits post you'll know that I've been embracing a more healthy diet recently, choc-a-block with plant based foods, think fruit and veg by the truckload. I've found a super easy way to really bump up my daily dose of fruit and veg is with smoothies. I simply chuck a variety of fruit and veg into my blender, blend and drink, it's really that easy. (A juicer is next on my to buy list, any recommendations?)

Some taste combinations have been rather questionable, especially when a large dose of vegies are added to the mix, but I've found that the addition of banana is a great way to add a little creaminess to the texture and mask any vegetable overdoses. Today's smoothie is a combination I've really been loving lately and it's a great one to introduce newbies to the world of healthy smoothies, no veg in sight. Another tip is to use frozen fruit in a smoothie, I find it thickens things up a little and is instantly cooled- yum!

You will need: 

(makes one large glass, perfect for breakfast)

1 cup of frozen raspberries
1 banana (this can also be frozen if you wish)
1 Granny Smith apple

I simply combine all ingredients in the blender, chopping the apple in to smaller segments and removing the core before hand. Simply blend until you've reached the desired consistency, this will vary from blender to blender and also your personal preference. If you want things to be a little more runny almond milk is a great addition, or even a little water doesn't affect the taste too much.

*if you're wanting to be super healthy you could also add some fresh leafy greens such as kale or spinach. You'll barely taste the difference and it's a great way to add some extra goodness*

    I've never really understood most smoothie recipes that add yoghurt or dairy products. Personally I don't think you need any of them, especially not if you use a banana as a base and if the consistency is a bit too thick, just add some water or water rich ingredients to make it thinner :o) Xx
