Valentines Day Face

With Valentine's Day just around the corner it's now a reasonable time to start planning your date night look. Whether you want to impress that guy/gal you've had your eye on for a while (you go girl) or you've just got a nice dinner with your significant other on the cards, something natural but slightly girly is perfect. My advice would be don't try anything outside your comfort zone, chances are you'll be nervous enough without throwing in a winged liner/ dark lip/ blue eyeshadow into the mix (unless those things are well within your comfort zone in which case, I'm jealous). Stick to what you know and what makes you feel confident in yourself- confidence is key!

I like to start with a smooth face and for that I turn to Clarin's Smooth Perfecting Touch Primer. For girls with something to hide (let's face it, very few of us are lucky enough to have a flawless face) I'd opt for something with decent coverage but a fairly natural finish, most guys will say they prefer girls wearing no makeup but little do they know how much makeup goes in to a no makeup-makeup look. For me that's my Estée Lauder Double Wear duo, foundation buffed in all over and the concealer on any particularly difficult areas. Next a little under eye brightening with Rimmel's Wake Me Up Concealer. With pimples and dark circles under control it's time to set with some of my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, great for diffusing redness and keeping things in place.

For cheeks I've opted for Daniel Sandler's Watercolour Creme Blush in Soft Pink, a girly pink shade that gives a slightly-flushed, natural look. Eyes I've gone from something simple, a sweep of Innoxa's Eye Shadow Stick in the shade pink but don't worry no pink eye confusion here, it's more of a champagne. For some lashline definition there's nothing like a brown liner to keep things natural. My pick is Maybelline's Masterliner 24h Cream Pencil in Brown. For fluttery lashes my recent discovery is Benefit's They're Real Mascara*, the most length-giving mascara in my collection to date.

I finished off the look with a swipe of lipgloss, I'm reaching for L'Oreal's Shine Caresse in Lolita for it's long wearing, non-sticky and non-transferable (handy for a smooch) properties.

  2. I'm still on the fence about the Benefit They're Real! mascara. It's nice but it's not as amazing as I had expected it to be after hearing such incredible reviews about it.

  5. I really like the look of that blush. I've never used a cream blush before as I'm worried I'll end up looking like a clown if I don't blend properly! :( x

  12. I feel the same. It definitely lengthens but all the raves make it sound like all you'd ever need, I guess everyone's different! x

  15. They actually aren't difficult to blend at all and it's difficult to go OTT. Try something like Bourjois' offering for your first foray, it's super easy to work with x

  17. Yes they do, however if you have a super oily skint type they may not be enough. In that case I'd opt for something like Rimmel's Stay Matte Pressed Powder in oil-prone areas and either apply the Hourglass on top or in the non-powdered areas x
