The Overnight Makeup Bag

We're heading into the business end of December and Christmas celebrations and I'm sure that means many a night out for a lot of you. Plenty of family to visit and friends to deliver presents to, there's no doubt we'll all be spending at least one night away from home. I'm a regular to the whole capsule makeup thing as I spend a fair few nights a week at my boyfriend's house. All this to-ing and fro-ing means I don't particularly want to be lugging around the entire contents of my makeup drawers. I thought given that Christmas is just around the corner I'd share with you my 'one-tiny-makeup-bag-for-a-whole-face' edit.

First up you want a travel friendly base. I try to avoid glass at all costs whilst travelling, not only due to the fear of breaking factor but it also adds unnecessary weight. Something that comes in plastic packaging is perfect, for me that's Laura Mercier's Silk Creme Foundation. Another advantage of this one is that it can be applied in a relatively sheer manner but it's also easy to ramp up the coverage. I think flexibility is the absolute key when it comes to choosing products for travelling. I'll also throw in my Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer just incase I have a slight skin emergency.

Next up is the Body Shop's Bronzing powder. I've chosen this because it's the lightest bronzer I own, so light in fact that I feel comfortable using it all over my face and that definitely means something coming from a bronzer noob like myself. By using a bronzing powder all over I find this eliminates the need for a separate setting powder and also adds a glow to the skin. This can be particularly helpful after a late night when you're feeling (and looking) slightly tender. Another great tip for perking up your morning after skin is to reach for a cream blush. I love the Stila Convertible Colours (this one is in the shade Peony) as they're great for lips and cheeks, but your favourite cream blush will do. I'd recommend a dual purpose one as this saves having to pack a lip colour, here's some of my favourite lip and cheek duos.

As for eyes, my first thought was cream shadow. Quick and easy to apply and perfect for a no-fuss-but-I-did-make-an-effort eye look. My favourites are the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, particularly Bad to the Bronze (or On and On Bronze in the UK). But if you're doing something a little bit more special the day after your sleep out, maybe more than a cream shadow is required. To cover both occasions, I've packed a sample sized Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Bikini-tini (can be used as a base or alone) as well as my much loved Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You to Want Me Palette. Raved about many a time around these parts, the perfect mix of shimmers with a few handy mattes thrown in. To finish off eyes, my favourite mascara of all time (I know, big call) my DJV Beautenizer Fibrewig LX.

All that packaged up in one tiny makeup bag, maybe we can all travel light this Christmas after all. If I can do it you can! Let me know your plans for the holiday season xx

  1. ooh the benefit eyeshadow looks gorgeous! I love on and on bronze and the body shop bronzer too xx

  2. that body shop bronzer is slowly creeping up my list of thing to buy! xx

  3. Really?! :o I never knew that! I thought all Body Shop was 100% animal cruelty free. That's such a shame to hear.
