Christmas Day Makeup

With Christmas literally just around the corner it's now an acceptable time for the beauty obsessed amongst us to plan their makeup ensemble for the big day. I've been thinking ahead and today I'm sharing three different makeup looks to inspire you no matter what your plans are this Christmas. A night out with friends, a day visiting family or maybe just a quite one at home, whatever your plans this Christmas, hopefully these three looks will provide some helpful inspiration for your festive face. They may even come in handy for New Years.

The Red Lip

Such a classic and when paired with some winged liner, you've got the whole festive glam look down pack. Warning: The perfect winged liner may require many attempts. For me, a red lip and glamorous flick goes hand in hand with a flawless base. I start with Clarins' Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch primer and Estée Lauder's Double Wear Concealer and Foundation. To hide those dreaded under eye circles (don't pretend that the excitement doesn't lead to lack of sleep come Christmas Eve) I use a combo of the EL concealer for coverage and Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation for radiance. To finish off the base I dust on some of my latest splurge, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light. I like to have a little something something on the lids but nothing too much so opted for the shade Venus from my Naked Basics palette. For me winged liner is best tackled with Rimmel's Scandaleyes Liner and finished off with some lash volumising with Estée Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme mascara. I finish the look with a coat of Innoxa's lipstick in Red Peony. For extra lasting power the trick is to apply, blot, then reapply and ensure your lips are well nourished pre colour.

The Smokey Eye

If a bold lip isn't your thing but eyes are, here's one for you. For a smokey eye I once again reach for my high coverage, Double Wear base. When trying something a bit special on my eyes I like to use a cream shadow base to ensure maximum longevity. For this look I started with Benefit's Creaseless Cream Shadow in Bikini-tini followed by a layer of Power Ballad from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You to Want Me palette. I really pack on the colour with this shade using a flat brush to help get that smokey effect. I then add some crease definition with Faint from the Naked Basics palette and an inner corner highlight with the shade Venus, and don't forget to blend! To really smoke things up I line my upper lash line with a super creamy grey liner, like this one from Innoxa, and blend out into the eyeshadow. Finish eyes with a coat of my DJV Beautenizer Fibrewig LX mascara for length and volume. I like to keep lips and cheeks natural when paired with a smokey eye so reached for Bourjois Cream Blush in Sweet Cherry on the cheeks and Estée Lauder's Pure Colour Gloss in Impulsive Coral on the lips.

The Nice and Natural

If you're just having a relaxed day at home and stepping out of your makeup comfort zone isn't on the agenda there's nothing wrong with keeping things natural. For me this consists of a no fuss base; Revlon's Colourstay for Normal/Dry skin and a dusting of the Body Shop's Honey Bronzing Powder. I like to add a hint of definition to the eyes with my Naked Basics Palette, Walk of Shame all over the lid and Naked 2 in the crease and some fluttery lashes with D.J.V's Beautenizer Fibrewig LX mascara. Lips and cheeks are kept matchy matchy with a hint of Stila's Convertible Colour in Peony gracing both. And that's my face done, nothing fancy and minimal effort required.

I'm not too sure which look I'll be opting for when the big day rolls around this year, but finger's crossed there's some new bits to experiment with in my stocking...
