Overnight Capsule Skincare Bag

I like to think I'm pretty experienced in packing lightly and only taking the 'essentials'. I spend half my time at my boyfriend's house so I've had plenty of opportunities to practise cutting down on the products I use daily. Those of you who read my last post will know that I spent the night at a hotel last weekend to celebrate my 18th. Straight away, compact organised Anna came out to play and skincare was the first thing I tackled. Skincare is my ultimate weakness. I think it's impossible to overstate the importance of an effective skincare routine so I didn't want to cut out too many of my essentials. However I knew that I would be out late that night and up early the next morning, making time for skin worshipping minimal compared to my norm. So here's the products I decided I couldn't go without and they got bundled into my overnight bag!

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm: As if I could go even a night without this stuff! Regular readers will know that this has been my cleanser of choice for many a month, if you don't believe me you can check out my ramblings here, and here and here. It really is amazing. Perfect for your capsule skincare bag as it removes make up and gives a nice deep cleanse, eliminating the need for a second cleanser. Also perfect for those nights when perhaps a tinsy bit of alcohol will be consumed due to how hydrating and nourishing it is.

Hydraluron: Fairly new to my routine, but I'm already in love. Another one of Caroline Hiron's favs, it's definitely worth the hype. It's full of hyaluronic acid which holds up to 1000 times its weight in water. Pretty cool huh? Layer this under your moisturiser or facial oil to help your skin soak up all that moisture. Perfect for any skin type as even the most oily skin is usually dehydrated!

Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Fruit and Seed Oil Blend: Another old favourite of mine. I have been using this oil pretty damn religiously for at least the past 6 months. It's heavy enough to moisturise and nourish my skin, but light enough to not be too much for my oily skin type. I've done a whole post about the benefits of Rosehip oil and how amazing this particular one is which you can read here. Also, if you have oily skin and the thought of applying more oil makes you cringe, read that post too!

Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner: Remember the days when toner was just that awkward extra, alcohol filled, step in your skincare routine? Not anymore! Caroline Hiron's (can you tell I'm a fan?), has sung nothing but praise for some particular toners for quite some time now. One of these being this offering from Clarins. It's a chemical exfoliant so instead of scrubbing away at your skin with harmful scrubs, you can simply apply a dollop of this with a cotton pad after cleansing and it will get rid of dead skin cells and keep your skin feeling smooth. I'm hoping to put a post up on toners soon, but in the mean time check out Caroline's cheat sheet here.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo: This product kind of confuses me. You can read the whole story here, but basically, I used it, didn't really know what it was doing for my skin so stopped using it, and then I broke out. So ever since that day, I've continued to use it! I use to apply morning and night but have now cut down to just the morning. I've heard many other bloggers complain that this is really drying, but I've never had that problem. I guess everyone's skin is different and you just have to try these things for yourself!

What's in your capsule skincare bag?

  2. Of this bunch I've tried out the effaclar duo, can't say it worked miracles but it definitely did a good job on my skin! I still use it every so often. What I really want to try out is the Clarins toner. :)

  4. I'm a big Caroline Hiron's fan too, and have started double cleansing and using a exfoliating toner (mine is from the Le Roche Posey line). Love her advice!
