Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Cheek Gelée

I've developed quite the soft spot for cream blushers recently. It started with Stila's Convertible Colours, then more recently Bourjois' new offerings and now onto this little American 'Cheek Gelée'. I picked this up in the shade Poppy Paradise in my recent US haul and I've been using it almost daily ever since. Josie Maran is only available in the US and takes a natural approach to beauty. They claim to be 'Luxury with a Conscience' using ingredients that are safe, nontoxic, eco-friendly and use no animal testing.

Now this isn't exactly a  traditional cream blush, it's more of a jelly texture (as you'd assume from the name). It's super, super pigmented which took me a while to get use to. I found the best way to apply is to use a dual fibre brush (something like the Real Techniques' Stippling one) as it allows you to pick up a tiny amount of product but blends really well. You literally need the tiniest amount of this to add a lovely rosey glow to your cheeks. It can be built up for a more dramatic look but I prefer a subtle hint of colour.

I found this blush blended absolutely seamlessly into my skin. Due to the jelly like texture, it gives a really nice natural finish that is near impossible to detect on the skin unlike with a powder blush. Although this is a very bright red colour, it stills appears really natural if you don't use too much. When I first applied this blush I accidentally applied way too much but simply used my foundation brush to blend out and tone down the colour.

If you're in the US, I believe Josie Maran products are available from Sephora and this particular Cheek Gelée retails for $22. I don't think this is a bad price point seeing as you're getting a natural product that works really well and will last a really long time due to only needing to use a tiny amount. There's quite a variety of different shades that I'd love to try and also some other products by Josie Maran that look great too.

Have you tried any products from this brand? Are there any you would recommend? I may be placing a naughty Sephora haul some time in the very near future.

  10. I've heard so many good things about this brand! Love your blog x

  11. Oh, I really want to try this brand! I find it quite interesting because Josie Maran used to be a Maybelline model and I imagine she's tried so many products during her career. I don't think I've read an unfavourable review of any of her products yet.

This colour looks so pretty. The gel idea is quite interesting. I imagine it must look great during warmer months, with a natural face.
