Urban Decay Naked Basics

I'm sure you all know by now that I'm a natural, no makeup-makeup lover. I steer clear of bright, bold colours and shimmer is usually something I try and avoid. I've always been so tempted by the Naked palettes by Urban Decay but they always seemed just that tiny bit too shimmery for my liking. Then they released this little palette of goodness and of course I was quick to snap it up. It's been flowing in and out of my makeup bag ever since and it's definitely become a firm favourite, even for an eye shadow noob like myself.

As I mentioned before I'm a bit of an eyeshadow noob. I don't wear powder eyeshadow everyday (I usually just go for a cream shadow all over the lid) and when I do wear it, I usually opt for something very natural just to define my eyes. I find matte shades are more natural than those with heaps of shimmer, so for me, this palette is perfect. It features six really nice, natural shades, five of which are matte and one (Venus) has a shimmer finish. The shades all work together really well so it's hard to go wrong (just don't forget to blend!). Speaking of blending, these shadows are so smooth making blending so easy. I've never experienced any fall out and even thought these are fairly well pigmented, if you slowly build up the colour it's pretty hard to go overboard.

Regular readers would have seen this palette pop up in 'Face of the Day' posts here and here, and I really do reach for this a heap. My 'go to' look is Walk of Shame (WOS) all over the lid with Naked 2 blended into the crease and into my lash line (top and bottom). I also like to use Venus as an inner corner or brow bone highlight. Even though I'm not a shimmer fan, I do really like that they included a shimmery shade so you can easily change up your look. Similarly I think it's great they've included Crave (the dark matte black) as you can create a really nice smokey eye for a night time look.

It's not the cheapest palette ($34.40 from the Beauty Bay) but the shadows really are amazing quality and it's definitely a staple for me. If you're just beginning to experiment with eye shadows I'd definitely recommend looking into this Urban Decay offering.

I have a slight soft spot for palettes so I'd love to hear your favourites in the comments below.

  1. I LOVE the Sleek makeup "Au Naturel" palette. Much like this one, it is made up mainly of matte shadows but had the odd shimmer/sparkle to change up your look. And it's only $9.99 plus postage (usually about $2!). It ships really fast.

P.S. I'm a new follower of your blog so I hope this one hasn't been reviewed/scorned before.... I'd look foolish.

  6. I've almost purchased this so many times but never end up going through with it! I'm also not a huge makeup person, and I have a few mac neutral shades that I love and use regularly-- although I really like that this one has a matte black in it!

  7. Great post. As you probably know I have a bit of an obsession with eyeshadow. I quite like the Benefit World Famous Neutrals palettes. My favourite is 'Most Glamorous Nudes' it's stunning. The new Nars 'Fairy's Kiss' palette looks fab too.

My current favourite though is my Mac quad which contains Amber Lights, Nylon & Bronze. Love, love, love!

  19. I think the quality of these eye shadows is much better than the Naked palettes. These last really well whereas I've found the original Naked eye shadows start to fade barely a few hours later. But that's probably because I have very oily eyelids.

I tend to use Naked 2 when I need to make myself look more awake. So pretty much most days.

  20. Really interesting and pretty blog :D
I own the Naked 2 palette and absolutely love it. I'm itching to buy this one as I'm the type of person who never really goes for bold eyes :)
I bought a palette from Inglot a while back and think it's really good. I wrote a post about it if you're interested. I definitely recommend their eyeshdow :)
