Review: Rimmel Traffic Stopping Shadow Trio

I received this eye shadow trio free with some other Rimmel purchases a while back (see the haul here) and thought it was about time I posted a review. This ones in the shade 001 Over the Limit (they all have names to do with traffic such as Sharp Turn and No Parking). It has 3 'ultra pearlised' baked eye shadows aimed to be everything you need for a simple eye look; a highlight, lid and outer corner shade (as outlined on the back of the trio).

When I first got these shadows I was slightly put off by the orangey shade, it's not really a colour I'd usually go for, and also I don't usually go for shadows that are this glittery. However when I swatched them I was pleasantly surprised. They had great colour pay off and weren't too glittery- just had a nice shimmer.

Even though orange isn't really my kind of colour, I thought I'd try the shadows out on my eyes just to see what the formulation was like to see if I'd like to invest in some of the other colours. This, sadly, was were I was disappointed. I used my Ecotools brushes to apply the shadows and found it really hard to get any colour onto my lids. Where my finger had picked up a decent amount of product, the brush seemed to struggle.

Once I finally managed to build up enough colour on my lids it did look quite nice- I found the shadows easy to blend and the colours went together well. It's just such a shame that I had to work so hard to get any colour pay off! I've heard similar complaints about many other baked products so maybe they are just more suited to being applied with fingers. I don't really like applying eye shadow with my fingers though as I find it too messy, but if you do, maybe give these shadows a try!

This was the best picture I could get- as you can see pigmentation isn't great!

Also on the back of the pack it says they can be used wet or dry so maybe I'd get on better with them wet? Let me know if you've tried these shadows and any tips you might have for me!
