DIY Beauty #1: Banana and Oatmeal Moisturising Face Mask

Sometimes I get that feeling where I just want to pamper myself a bit. But of course, we can't always afford the top of the range pampering products and sometimes, it's better just to make use of some of the things we already have around our homes. Now that's where this post comes in! I was in the pampering mood, but not not the 'money-spending-mood' so decided to try a bit of 'DIY Beauty'. This is a lovely moisturising and gently exfoliating face mask you can easily make with just 3 ingredients; banana, rolled oats and milk.

It's really super simple, all you need to do is combine all the ingredients in a bowl and voila! However I would recommend that you use a food processor to blend the rolled oats into smaller pieces first. This helps when mixing into a paste and also improves exfoliation. I used half a large banana, about a cup and a half of rolled oats and just a drop of milk to bring it all together, and that was plenty for my entire face. Just mash the banana and oatmeal together then gradually add milk to form a paste.

To apply I just grabbed a handful and massaged into my skin. By gently massaging you are exfoliating your face as well as helping the moisture from the banana and milk work its way in. After massaging for 2-3 minutes I left the mask on for about 10 minutes before removing with a muslin cloth and warm water (a flannel will do fine).

After using this mask my face felt fresh, soft and hydrated. All the ingredients are completely natural and by making it yourself you can ensure that you're not putting any hidden nasties onto your skin! This mask would be great for all skin types.  Milk and banana are great for moisturising and hydrating and oats are a great natural exfoliator with anti-inflammatory compounds so great for soothing pimples or acne!

After how lovely my skin felt after using this mask I'm definitely going to look into some more DIY beauty! Let me know if you'd like me to feature more of these kinds of posts for beauty products you can make yourself and if you try this mask yourself, let me know how you get on!
